Another Spring Zine project
🌼Another Spring Farm’s Zine is a collection of stories and art from Black and Brown and🌼 historically marginalized peoples about our connection to food and land. This is a project to have our voice heard and story told. I found a deeper relationship to my identity as a Black and Brown person through the land. I also found barriers to this access. I found connection to my community and I found that many of us have an experience with food and soil that also informs our experience dealing with an oppressive system. This is an effort to document the ways racism, misogony, misogynior, gender oppression and ableism express itself in our food systems and the joy and connection that we find despite this.
I am currently looking to collect stories for this project! If you have an experience you would like to share through writing, poetry or art please be in touch! There is no limit on what this could look like! This could be a story or recipe from an ancestor that you relate to. It could be a healing medicine you would like to share. It could be an experience where you had to fight a barrier to access food or land. It could be a time when you laid in the grass and felt the sun on your shoulders. This could also be a time when land was stolen from you and the repercussions of such actions.
Please submit whatever you feel called to but if you would like I can provide a few prompts. There is not a current length cap or requirement for pieces just please keep in mind you are sharing space with other stories. Word pieces do not need to include visuals and visuals do not need to include text. Please feel free to create what you want and we can tweak it together if that is needed. I am looking to gather around 15 submissions for this season’s zine and will produce 3 zines over the course of the growing season. These zines will be distributed as part of our CSA share but they will also be for sale on our website and at markets.
Participants will receive $100 for their submission and whatever profit is made from the zines. That means whatever money comes from these stories will be sent back to you and the other participants. I recognize that your stories are priceless and hope that this model of compensation feels as just as possible.
Participants must identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous and/or BIPOC. This is for historically marginalized peoples to express themselves. If you are BIPOC and queer, trans, and/or disabled you are so welcomed and wanted here and in this project. <3
